Sora 2 Invite Codes Don't Work Anymore — Here's Why

Checked 21 August 2026. Every Sora 2 invite code is dead. OpenAI discontinued the Sora web and app experiences on 26 April 2026; the remaining developer API is scheduled for removal on 24 September 2026, per OpenAI's deprecations page. The code megathreads, code-vending sites and "refilled code" posts still ranking for this search were all written before that and none of them work.

Sora 2 invite codes no longer do anything. There is no app to redeem them in — OpenAI shut the consumer Sora experience down on 26 April 2026, four months before this page was written. If someone is offering to sell you a code, share one, or unlock access "from any country", they are either working from a stale article or running a scam against people who haven't heard the news yet.

Do I Still Need an Invite Code for Sora 2?

No, and not because access opened up. Access closed.

Invite codes were a real gate for about six weeks. Sora 2 launched in late September 2025 with a code-based waitlist, each code good for a handful of uses. By late November 2025 OpenAI had dropped the requirement in the US, Canada, Japan and South Korea, and codes stopped mattering there. Then the whole product was withdrawn:

DateAccess state
Sept 2025Invite code required, US and Canada only
Nov 2025No code needed in US, Canada, Japan, South Korea
Jan 2026Free generation withdrawn; Plus and Pro subscribers only
24 Mar 2026OpenAI announces the Videos API deprecation
26 Apr 2026Sora web and app discontinued — codes become meaningless
24 Sept 2026sora-2 and sora-2-pro API models removed

So the honest answer to "do I need a code" is that the question stopped applying two ways round: first codes became unnecessary, then the product they unlocked stopped existing.

Why This Search Still Returns Working-Looking Codes

Search results for this query are unusually stale, and it is worth understanding why before you trust any of them:

  • Reddit megathreads from October and November 2025 are still the top result. The codes in them expired long before the shutdown.
  • Code-vending sites show live-looking counters — "3 left", "copy code" — that are generated client-side and were never connected to OpenAI.
  • "Refilled code" posts on X and Facebook are engagement bait, and increasingly a phishing vector: the ask is usually a "verified" Google account, which is the actual payload.
  • VPN affiliate articles promising access "from any country" were written when the gate was regional. There is no region where Sora 2 is available now.

None of this is malicious in every case — most of it is simply content that was correct in late 2025 and has never been updated. But the practical result is a search results page where the honest answer does not appear.

Never Pay for a Sora 2 Invite Code

This should be obvious but the market for these codes was real and some of it is still running. Codes were always free and always non-transferable in any meaningful sense; there was never a legitimate paid channel. Today there is nothing on the other side of a code at all. Anyone charging is selling access to a product that has been offline since April.

The recurring ask — hand over a verified Google or ChatGPT account to "activate" a code — is a credential grab. Treat it as one.

What Happened to Videos Made in Sora

OpenAI ran an export window through a sunset page at sora.chatgpt.com/sunset, which produced a ZIP containing videos, prompts and metadata. That window closed with the consumer shutdown in April 2026. Anything exported before then is still yours under the licence it was generated under. Anything that wasn't exported is gone; there is no retrieval path and no code that reopens one.

Is There a Sora 2 API Left?

For about another month, yes. OpenAI's deprecations page lists sora-2, sora-2-pro, sora-2-2025-10-06, sora-2-2025-12-08 and sora-2-pro-2025-10-06, all with a shutdown date of 2026-09-24, alongside the Videos API itself. The recommended-replacement column is empty — OpenAI is not pointing developers at a successor video model.

It is metered per second: roughly $0.10/s for sora-2 at 720p and $0.30–$0.70/s for sora-2-pro depending on resolution. It requires an API key and a developer account, so it is not a route back into the consumer app under any circumstances, and building on it now means building on an endpoint with a published removal date.

What to Use Instead

If you wanted Sora 2 for the video quality, the closest live options are Google's Veo line, Alibaba's Wan models — which have native synced audio and are far cheaper per second — and Kling. The AI video generator buyer's guide compares them by job rather than by benchmark, and Sora 2 vs Veo 3.1 covers the head-to-head that most people were making when Sora was still live.

If you wanted Sora 2 to make ads, a raw video model was always the long way round. Clips are not ads. You still need the hook, the script, the actor, the captions and the cut.

Making Ads Without Waiting for Anyone's Invite

There is no waitlist here and no code to hunt for. Creetr takes a product link or a reference ad and returns a finished, ready-to-post UGC-style video ad — AI actor, script, hook, captions, auto-edit — on a free plan with no watermark on export. If you just want to test hooks before committing to anything, the video hook generator is free and needs no signup, and the AI UGC generator guide explains how the whole workflow fits together.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Do you still need an invite code for Sora 2?+

No — and not because access opened up. Codes stopped being required in the US, Canada, Japan and South Korea in November 2025, and then the product itself was discontinued on 26 April 2026. There is nothing left for a code to unlock.

How do I get a Sora 2 invite code?+

You can't, and you don't need one. OpenAI shut the Sora web and app experiences down on 26 April 2026. Any site, thread or post currently offering codes is either stale content from late 2025 or a scam — the common ask, a 'verified' Google or ChatGPT account to activate a code, is a credential grab.

Are Sora 2 invite codes free?+

They were always free when they mattered, and there was never a legitimate paid channel for them. Today they are worth nothing at any price, because the product they unlocked has been offline since April 2026. Never pay for one.

Why do Sora 2 invite code sites still look like they work?+

Because the counters are cosmetic. Code-vending pages render 'copy code' buttons and '3 left' counters client-side; they were never connected to OpenAI's systems. The Reddit megathreads that still rank were written in October and November 2025, when codes were real and expiring within days.

Is Sora 2 available in my country?+

It isn't available in any country. The regional availability question applied while the product was live and code-gated; since the 26 April 2026 shutdown there is no region, VPN, app-store switch or subscription tier that restores consumer access.

Is there any Sora 2 access left at all?+

Only the developer Videos API, and only for a limited time. OpenAI's deprecations page lists `sora-2` and `sora-2-pro` with a shutdown date of 2026-09-24. It needs an API key and a developer account, is billed per second, and is not a route back into the consumer app. See [Is Sora 2 free?](/blog/is-sora-2-free) for the pricing and the full timeline.

What should I use instead of Sora 2?+

For video quality, the live options are Google's Veo line, Alibaba's [Wan models](/blog/wan-2-5) — cheaper per second and with native synced audio — and Kling. See the [AI video generator buyer's guide](/blog/higgsfield-ai-video-generator). For making ads rather than clips, a raw model was always the long way round; [Creetr](/) goes from a product link to a finished UGC ad on a free plan.

Can I still download videos I made in Sora?+

No. Exports ran through a sunset page at sora.chatgpt.com/sunset and that window closed with the consumer shutdown in April 2026. Files you downloaded before then are still yours; anything left on OpenAI's servers is not retrievable, and no invite code changes that.
